About the Bursary Programme

The Sean Shannon Music Foundation Bursary Program is the cornerstone of our mission, providing support to exceptionally talented young musicians who face socioeconomic barriers to pursuing their musical education. We believe that financial hardship should never stand in the way of a quality music education.

Our bursaries help cover a range of expenses, including tuition fees for music lessons or programs, the purchase of instruments, sheet music, travel costs associated with attending masterclasses or competitions and other essential materials. By alleviating these financial burdens, we empower young musicians to focus on their artistic development and reach their full potential. Through this program, we invest in the future of music, ensuring that the next generation of artists, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to share their gifts with the world.

Candidate Selection

The Sean Shannon Music Foundation is delighted to partner with Music Generation for the 2025 candidate selection process.

Together we have come up with a selection process that is accessible, fair and transparent. We want to ensure that young musicians from all backgrounds have a fair and equal opportunity for nomination.

For more details regarding the nomination process and bursary distribution process see the link below.

What does the Bursary include?

The bursary is comprised entirely on donations. Immediately following the concert series, recipients and the public will be made aware of the amount given for the bursary. This money will go to funding lessons, tuition, instruments, travel costs associated with attending courses/masterclasses, sheet music and any other music related expense.

The bursary also includes a solo debut concert, which will be held in February 2026, organised by the Sean Shannon Music Foundation.

As part of the experience, we will also commit to connecting the winners with relevant artists, teachers, mentors etc, to further progress their education and careers.
